The WhatsApp Connector API enables developers to send and track WhatsApp Messages programatically, and Zendesk Admins to configure Zendesk to send proactive WhatsApp Messages.
You can find the technical details here.
Why use it?
With this new API version, developers can:
- Send single WhatsApp messages programatically, with custom code or low code tools.
- Send bulk WhatsApp messages programatically, without uploading files or creating Bulk deliveries.
- Send scheduled WhatsApp messages programatically.
- Set different delivery origins so they can integrate different apps and track the deliveries independently.
- Build their own WhatsApp message delivery solution or integration with custom code.
- Omit the ticket creation or update process at Zendesk when sending WhatsApp messages.
On the other hand, Zendesk administrators can:
- Create Triggers, Automations and Macros in Zendesk that send Proactive WhatsApp messages (here is how to do it).
- Enable the Zendesk bot to Send Proactive WhatsApp messages automatically by leveraging the Make API call step.
The new WhatsApp Connector API is more secure. A Base64 encoded Authorization header is now enforced for Authorization, containing the user and connection credentials (just like Zendesk does).
The API is also faster and more reliable. It has been optimized to send the messages quicker and is less prone to common errors.
You will also find a Postman collection in the API documentation describing how to do the integration so you can be up and running in a breeze. Enjoy!
What if we are using the old API?
We know that many of you are using the old endpoint for your integrations (4887_send_single_notification).
If this is your case, we recommend moving to the new API, since it is more secure, faster, has more features, is more REST compliant and will be up to date for longer.
We will keep the old endpoint working until June 30th 2025 though.
Contact us if you need support with the migration.
